Women's unpaid labour is worth $10.9 trillion annually. Yet every year, big corporations around the world ask women to speak for free on International Women's Day, and throughout the year.
We created a downloadable presentation women could use to respond to unpaid speaking requests. This wasn't just about saying no—it was about educating organisations on why asking women to speak for nothing perpetuates the very inequality they claim to champion on International Women's Day. The presentation became both a practical tool for individual women and a powerful statement about systemic change needed across industries.
We launched the initiative with a video starring high-profile speaker, feminist
and social commentator Jane Caro, who directed people to a website where they could download the presentation and access handy resources. The campaign was strategically shared where free speaking requests happen most—LinkedIn, social media, and professional networks. The art direction was inspired by protest and gender equality artwork, drawing from May '68 strikes and other civil and workers' rights movements to bring the issue to light.
We created a movement that transformed how women respond to unpaid speaking requests.
The Fee Speech can be downloaded anytime at TheFeeSpeech.com, ensuring it lives on as a continual short tool for women to get paid for their time and talent
By giving women a professional, educational tool to respond to exploitation, we proved that the most effective advocacy campaigns provide practical solutions rather than just raising awareness—empowering individuals to create systemic change one speaking request at a time.
